- Spectra announced an open season for a new natural gas pipeline to increase capacity in New England. The Atlantic Bridge project would connect the Algonquin Gas Transmission and Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline systems to flow natural gas supplies to areas that currently are not benefiting from the Northeast’s natural gas boom. The open season will conclude March 31, 2014.
- Public schools in Gardiner are now being heated with natural gas, as customers of Summit Natural Gas.
- A number of power plants in New England will be shutting down in the coming years, reducing available power supply and driving up prices in the forward capacity market. The most recent regional auction to buy power for 2017 and 2018 ended with a supply shortfall, according to ISO New England.
- Gas Natural Inc., the parent company of Bangor Gas Co., announced that it has completed activation of 60 miles of the Loring gas pipeline that runs from Searsport to Limestone, Me.
